Introductory Meeting

Hey everyone!

If you’re interested in joining the club don’t forget we have our fresher meeting on Wednesday this week (2nd of October). We’re going to be meeting outside the Stag’s at 6.15pm and taking everyone to a lecture theatre in building 2, room 1089 (L/T D). There we’ll give you a quick presentation about the club and show you a short video about what you can expect from us during the next year. The whole meeting will last until 7pm, and then we’ll hit the pub for the start of our fresher social!

During the meeting there will be a chance to sign up for membership to the canoe club and to our first trip to Perranporth this weekend. It’s £30 to become a member for the year and an additional £35 to sign up to the trip to Perranporth. We’re only going to be accepting cash on the night, so come prepared with money if you want to join. The trip will be first-come first-served and we’re expecting it to be full by the end of the evening, so if you want to come make sure you bring £65 in cash. It’s going to be an awesome evening, so get involved and I’ll see you there!

Now a quick word from our social secs:

Straight after the meeting we’ll be having our first social of the year! This will be a carnage-filled pub-crawl to all the best (and worst) bars in Portswood, complete with free t-shirts, fresher challenges, Jesticles, and lots and lots of drinking. Prepare yourselves, it’s gonna be a good one! If you can’t make it to the meeting, we’ll be starting at Stags at 7.30pm, or give me a call to meet us later on.

See you all there,

Lots of social sec love
Pernille, Alex and Becky

Taster Sessions!

Thanks to everyone who came to find us as the Bunfight this week!

We’ll be sending e-mails to you guys about the up-and-coming events happening over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye on out for those! We are also on Facebook, so join the Canoe Club fresher group to keep up to date with everything.

This weekend we’re running free taster sessions at the Uni Watersports Centre, just down the road from Wessex Lane halls. We’re going to be there from 1.00 pm – 5.30 pm on Saturday, and 10-12.30 am and 2.30-5.30 pm on Sunday, playing a few games out on the water. We’re also having a BBQ, so we’ll cook it up for you while you paddle. The whole day is free and we provide all your kit. All you need to bring is a towel, a change of clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and some old/wet shoes if you have any. We’ll also have a shuttle bus running from the concourse, just outside the Stag’s every 20 minutes.

Hope to see all you lovely people this weekend!

The AGM is coming!

I’m sure by now the astute among you will have realised that this year’s excellent, dynamic and sexy committee can’t last forever.

Yes that’s right the AGM is coming up. On 13th March next years’ committee will be decided! So what do you have to do? It’s simple. Decide which position/positions you would like to run for, get a current committee member to back your nomination; then create some hilarious and inspiring propaganda to encourage people to vote for you (this turned to slander very quickly last year).

At the AGM you will have a to give a very quick pitch as to why you would be good at the role, answer any questions the SUCCers may have prepared for you and be able to maintain composure while abuse is hurled at you.

So what positions are there? Click here for all the info you will ever need!

To finish with here are a few examples of propaganda that was used last year. Use it to inspire your works of art.

SUCC love, Will
