FAQ’s

Here are the most frequently asked questions about SUCC by you the freshers.

1. Q:Do I have to have kayaked prior to joining this club?

A: You do not need any prior kayaking experience in order to kayak in our club, the club provides training for all beginners and supports you to a level that you are comfortable with.

2. Q: Do I need to be able to swim?

A: Yes, you do need to be able to swim at least 50 metres in a swimming pool without having to put your feet down, this is due to that fact that even though the club is very safe, you are likely to get wet, especially as a beginner!

3. Q: If I am a confident paddler what can your club offer to me?

A: As a club we are very much open to all levels of ability, as far as progression goes there is always something to learn and there are always plenty of people to teach, so if you get bored of river running there are plenty of playboaters around to take you under their wing!

4. Q: Do you run club socials? If so when are they?

A: We do run club socials every week! They are very popular and we provide a wide range of activities.... not just alcoholic but also non-alcoholic socials!

5. Q: How often can I paddle?!

A: Luckily for you we are one of the most active clubs in university! We have river sessions most weeks at our lovely university boathard on the river Itchen. We also run pool sessions, fantastic for learning your kayaking rolls! But that's not all! We also run club trips every fortnight that go everywhere that can offer good rivers or surf. Last but not least we have lots of members that enjoy impromptu weekend paddles, these will usually be posted about on the Facebook page, so keep an eye out!

6. Q: How much is this all going to cost me?

A: As far as value for money is concerned, this club is second to none! Membership gives you full access to all of our club kit, plus a river session every week on the Itchen, PLUS the pool sessions!

7. Q: Are there any other charges?

A: Unfortunately trips aren't free, but still a bargain! For more info visit the trip info page.
