Taster Sessions

Hey guys,

Thanks to everyone that came down to the taster earlier, it was a fantastic day! If you couldn’t make it today, don’t worry, we have another taster session on tomorrow at the Boat Hard (see below for details and a map).

You can turn up at any time from 10am – 3pm. We’ll have multiple sessions throughout the day, so don’t worry if you can’t make it at the beginning. There will be a free shuttle bus running every 30 minutes from the concourse, just outside the Stag’s (look for the person walking in or around the Stag’s with a paddle!). If you live in Monte, it’s a 5 minute walk down the road towards the park, just follow the signs. We’ll then do our best to get you on the water, play some games and give you an intro to kayaking. Don’t forget we will provide all your specialist kit, you simply need to bring a change of clothes that you don’t mind getting wet, a towel and some old/wetsuit shoes if you have them. We’ll also have a free BBQ with tea/coffee/cake! It’s going to be an awesome day, so come down and have some fun!

To go on the water, you must be able to swim 50m for safety reasons.

Feel free to bring along your housemates, flatmates, friends along to the day, even if they didn’t sign up at the bunfight. Everyone’s invited.

For more information, go to our FAQ page. If you couldn’t come this weekend but would still like to join the club or see what we’re about, never fear, our Freshers Intro Meeting is on Wednesday 3rd October at 6.30pm, more info on our website. If you haven’t already, join our fresher facebook group to keep up to date with our events.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome to SUCC!

If you missed us at the bunfight today, don’t worry! There is still loads of time to get involved. Join the Canoe Club fresher group to keep up to date with everything we’ve got going on over the first few weeks of the new term.

We’re one of the largest and most active clubs in the university. This weekend we’re running free taster sessions at the Uni Watersports Centre, details below. Come along to see what we can offer you!

Taster Sessions
The taster sessions are this weekend at the Uni Watersports centre, just down the road from Wessex Lane halls. We’re going to be there from 10am – 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday (this has changed slightly from the leaflet times due to the tide), playing a few games out on the water. We’re also having a BBQ, so bring down some meat and we’ll cook it up for you while you paddle. The whole day is free and we provide all your kit. All you need to bring is a towel, a change of clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and some old/wet shoes if you have any. We’ll also have a shuttle bus running from the concourse, just outside the Stag’s from 10am (look for the person with the paddle!).

Freshers Meeting
Our Freshers meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd October, starting at 6:30pm in building 7, room 3009. This will be followed by our incredible Fresher’s social to Portswood, getting you nicely acquainted with the bars, pubs and clubs of the area. At the meeting itself, you can learn more about the club and will have the opportunity to join us (only £30 for the whole year – with a load of benefits) and come on the freshers trip to Perranporth (at a special price of only £30 for the weekend with all this included).

We’ll be sending e-mails to you guys about the up-and-coming events happening over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye on out for those!

Hope to see all you lovely people this weekend! Any questions just email the committee at canoe@soton.ac.uk

The Alps 2012

Two weeks, three cars, four swims and one lost boat.

Southampton University ventured all the way to the French Alps in anticipation of sunny days and balmy nights. They got neither of these things. They did however get their fair share of spectacular scenery, delightful whitewater and oversized sandwiches. If you like your kayaking videos full of the big stuff and slickly edited…you probably won’t like this:

Looks like fun? Get involved right here.
