Freshers Email 2006

Example Email

Welcome to Southampton University Canoe Club,

Thanks for showing interest in the Canoe Club, this email is to inform you of the activities that we have available for you in the near future to introduce you to the club. It explains what was on the leaflets in a bit more detail. Nothing is compulsory and once you are a member you can do as little or as much as you like.

Firstly this Saturday (7th Oct) we are holding introductory paddling sessions at the University Boathard. These sessions are limited and filled very quickly so we apologise if you were not able to get on one. Those who did sign up will have received another email detailing what's going on. Any problems please contact us!

Next Wednesday (11th Oct) will be our first river session. Everyone is welcome to come down and spend as long as they want on the water, someone will be down from 1pm until about 4 or 5. Just make your way to the university boathard, on Oliver Road near wessex lane halls, ask if you need directions. There we practice paddling skills on the flat open water, it is the ideal time to prepare for a weekend away. These Sessions are held every Wednesday in termtime.

Also on Wednesday we are having our Introductory Meeting, which EVERYONE is invited to. Meet outside the Student's Union at 18:30 and we will take you along to lecture theatre F in the Management building, where we will introduce the committee and assorted current members, tell you about what we do, when we do it, how to join and generally answer the questions you may have. Afterwards we will be walking to the Terminal in Portswood, potentially playing a game on the way, where we will have a few drinks and you can get to know us a bit more personally. We will be going on to Jesters afterwards- if you have never been then you are in for a treat!

Thursday evenings see our pool session from 9 - 10 in the jubilee sports hall. This is our weekly dose of paddling in the nice warm swimming pool where we teach new skills ranging from basic strokes up to how to roll. These evenings also have limited space and a list will be going onto our

notice board (on way to stag's head loos) for people to express their

intent to attend. If you get your name on the list then turn up at 8.45. You will need a SportRec card to get into the swimming pool, and once again we will probably go for a few drinks afterwards.

That weekend (13/14/15th Oct) we have planned our freshers paddling trip. This year we are going to go to Perranporth in Cornwall for some kayak surfing. This is ideal for beginners as you can fall in as much as you like and not be far from shore. For those a bit more advanced there should be some good waves to catch and surfing is surprisingly rewarding. To get on the trip you will need to be a member of the club and get your name on yet another list which will be available after the meeting on Wednesday and on our notice board. Trips cost £28 and include food, accommodation, transport and great company.

If you now regret ever giving us your email address then don't worry, we will only email you a few times like this, and then we will remove your address. We use a separate members email list to communicate in the club, but all that will be explained on Wednesday.

Thanks for reading, and look forward to seeing you all shortly. Lots of love The SUCC Committee
