River Sessions

(Redirected from BoatHard)

Itchen River Sessions

On Wednesday afternoons the club meets at the University Boat Hard for practicing skills on the calm water of the River Itchen. The river is tidal; at high tide there is flat water at the boathard, and at low tide flat water is available on the canal slightly upstream.

Normally the session takes place at about 2pm, but it's best to check times and sign up beforehand on the club noticeboard.

At low tide there is also a weir which can be paddled once you've mastered the basic skills.

The Boat Hard

The club keeps its boats and equipment at the University boathard. This is also where we hold training sessions on Wednesday afternoons and paddle the Itchen weir.

Getting to the Boat Hard

The boathard is located near the Wessex Lane Halls of Residence.

To get to the boathard, walk down Woodmill Lane and follow it around to the right past Stoneham tower. Just before the bridge over the river turn right down Oliver Road. At the end of this road there's a gate down to the left. That's the entrance to the boathard. The postcode is SO18 2JL.

Both the U1 and U6 can be taken to Stoneham Tower, Wessex Lane.
